World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day is only a few weeks away.  On this day, people with Down syndrome and their supporters raise awareness and advocate for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome.

There are a number of events and activities to celebrate the day.

World Down Syndrome Day in Canberra

On World Down Syndrome Day, we are hosting a Morning Tea at Parliament House to raise awareness of the issues on which Down Syndrome Australia is advocating for at a National level.  Our self-advocates will also meet with Ministers and key Departmental staff the following day to speak about what is important for people with Down syndrome. We are grateful to the Sherry Hogan Foundation for funding this self-advocacy forum.

NDIS Review

The Government announced a review of the NDIS in October 2022.  The Review will look at the design, operations and sustainability of the NDIS. It will also look at ways to make the market and workforce more responsive, supportive and sustainable.

DSA continues to provide input into the Review through various forums and formal submissions to the Review.  We will be working with the State and Territory Associations on these submissions to ensure that they reflect the experiences of people with Down syndrome across Australia.

You can email us directly at info@downsyndrome.org.au with any issues you want to raise with us.

You can also make submissions directly to the NDIS Review on their website:

You can become a community advisor if:

  • you are a woman with intellectual disability
  • you have used the types of contraception described in the study.

You can also get involved if you are a close family member and carer of a woman with intellectual disability who has used these types of contraception.
